Welcome to my blog guys!
Over the past semester, I was enrolled in a class called 'Representing Animals.' This class dealt with issues such as the humane treatment of animals, whether we should eat animals, and a project on the sustainability of animals. As I read Jonathon Safron Foer's novel "Eating Animals" I fought with the true reality of eating animals.
Issues included:
1. Fossil Fuels needed to process meat, package, and ship.
2. Was it more efficient to grow wheat to feed animals then humans or just directly feed humans?
3. Do we know what goes on inside of intensive factory farming slaughterhouses?
4. Are we correctly told what goes into our meat? What are we really putting into our bodies?
5. Vote with your dollar!
These issues brought to my attention the immediate need for buyers to vote with their dollar somewhere besides the meat isle.
"Chickens once had a life expectancy of fifteen to twenty years, but the modern broiler is typically killed at around six weeks. Their daily growth rate has increased roughly 400 percent."-Foer
That's just an introduction to Foer, but watch Ellen Degeneres view on eating animals.
